    A Message from the President

I am happy to report 2017 has been a successful year. Allow me to remind you of some of the events that the FPA of Michigan has put on in the course of the last year.

Coming off another record-setting year of attendance for our annual fall symposium in 2016, the FPA of Michigan began in January with a special education workshop with Gary Mitchiner focused on business development.

As we moved into the spring, we had an excellent turnout for our education meeting in Troy with David Grau on the subject of succession planning. Many of our members chose to take advantage of our Bring a Guest pricing to introduce their colleagues to the benefits of the FPA of Michigan. The Board of the FPA of Michigan encourages all of our members to support the efforts of the FPA by encouraging others to become a member of the premier financial planning organization in the country.

In June we inaugurated our summer ethics CE classes in Traverse City, Ann Arbor, Troy, and Grand Rapids over the course of three days. It is our hope that these events will serve as a boon to our members, along with our ethics program at our annual symposium, allowing them to meet the high standards required as CFP professionals.

Moving into the fall our symposium committee continues to put the finishing touches on the program for our fall symposium scheduled for October 18 and 19th we hope to see many of you there. These major programs exist in addition to our monthly Lunch and Learn meetings in Grand Rapids; Breakfast Club Discussion meetings in Ann Arbor and Birmingham; and NexGen and Women in Finance meetings.

In light of all of the ongoing events in the past year I am also happy to report that as an organization we continue to remain financially viable. We are operating well within the margins established by the Board of Directors and in light of that success the Board of the FPA of Michigan has chosen to maintain our current Membership Dues for 2018. We recognize that our members have a choice when it comes to associations and we’re proud that so many CFP professionals choose to be members of the FPA of Michigan.

The Board of the FPA of Michigan looks forward to continuing to serve the needs of our members. If you have questions or concerns about your experience with the FPA, I encourage you to contact me and will work with you to address those issues.

    Matt Ferrara
    2017 President
