President's Message

As 2017 and my term as President of the FPA of Michigan come to a close, I would like to take a few moments to thank everyone who has been integral in the success of the chapter in the past year.

First and foremost, we need to recognize the efforts of Mary Medonis, without whom we would not be able to achieve half of what we do. Along with Mary’s efforts all of the members of the Board of Directors and the various committees have done a fabulous job in the last twelve months of putting together programs that benefit our members and forward the goals of the FPA.

I also want to thank all of our members who embraced the organization and gave back in whatever way they were able. Whether by assisting the chapter in some manner or by giving back in their community, your efforts make the FPA of Michigan a better organization. Our Symposium Committee put together a fantastic two days of education, with another record setting attendance. Our Education Committee expanded our ability to offer Ethics CE's with a traveling education experience that was widely attended and commended. Our NexGen and local breakfast groups have expanded the opportunities for our members to engage without each other and grow their practices. Based on the enthusiasm of our income Board Members I expect that these opportunities will continue to grow in the coming years.

Finally, I want to thank all of the members of FPA of Michigan from whom I have learned so much since I joined the organization. Your openness and willingness to teach others has astounded me and it is an aspect of the organization that I trumpet whenever I speak to anyone about why I choose to be active with the FPA. As an affiliated professional I see from the outside the benefit that you all bring to your clients and the community and I look forward to being a member of the FPA of Michigan for many more years.

Again, thank you all for allowing me to be a part of such an excellent group of people, have a very happy holiday season and a successful 2018.

Matt Ferrara
2017 President
FPA of Michigan

Give Back to the Profession and Become a Mentor.  Are you a seasoned financial professional looking to give back to the next generation of Financial Advisors? Central Michigan University is teaming up with the FPA of Michigan to launch The Student Advisor Connection Program and FPA of Michigan is looking for volunteers to mentor students studying Personal Financial Planning and aspiring to become CFP®’s. As a mentor, you will guide students over a minimum of three phone calls as they complete their personal financial planning degrees and transition into their financial planning careers.

Becoming a mentor allows you to provide students with “real world” advice and educate them on the different career paths available. Students will look to their mentors as a sounding board as they begin to navigate their financial planning careers. As a mentor you will also be encouraged to help the graduating student begin their journey into the FPA of Michigan by inviting them to events and introducing them to NexGen. The mentorship coordinator will provide guidance of topic areas to cover over the three phone calls.

There is no physical requirement, mentors can live in anywhere in the State of Michigan. Mentors will be invited to the students final capstone financial planning presentation and invited as a guest speaker if they are interested, but it is not required to attend.

If you are interested in giving back, please click here to sign up.
