The most disruptive change since Eisenhower is the pass-through provisions.
This has a profound effect on business owners at the shareholder level. Planning can be
upside down, where we increase income in certain cases, and decrease
it in other cases. The complexity present planning opportunities for advisors.

    Approved for 2 CFP CE's

About the program: The New Tax Code is disruptive and complex. It may be one of the most complex simplifications in tax history. This session covers the planning aspects of tax law changes.

    You will learn about:

    • New 199A pass-through provisions, SSTB provisions and Aggregation possibilities
    • Choice of entity under TCJA
    • New possible legislation [Note this may be simply ‘new legislation’, pending the lame duck]
    • New planning opportunities for individual taxpayers
    • New retirement plan provisions (and prospective provisions)

Who should attend: Planners with pass-throughs entities, or client with pass-through entities. This session will also be valuable or all planning-oriented advisors who provide tax planning as part of their service profile.

“The more you know, the more time you can spend enjoying life, rather than worrying.” For Leon LaBrecque, who has been featured in media outlets like InvestmentNews, CNBC, USA Today and Forbes, reducing uncertainty is a theme that runs throughout his professional life. As a practicing attorney, CPA, CFP® and CFA, he is an educator at heart, and has a passion for helping others fully understand their financial lives.

After growing up in Hazel Park, Michigan, graduating magna cum laude from University of Detroit Mercy with degrees in accounting and law, he grew his wealth management firm, LJPR Financial Advisors, from the ground up with a foundation in financial education. LaBrecque brings to the table a mind that never rests and a catalog of life experiences that allows him to deeply connect with his clients and understand their individual needs.

Leon joined the MICPA Board on September 1, 2016 and is the Director of the MICPAs Special Task Force on New Tax Legislation. He has authored several books and proprietary financial programs for General Motors, Ford Motor Company, AT&T and numerous law enforcement organizations. LaBrecque serves as Trustee for the Hazel Park Promise Zone, advisor to the Sustainability Institute of Detroit, and is a member of the Sherriff’s and Municipal Memorial Assistance Response Team, among other community roles. When he’s not helping his clients prepare for a thriving retirement he enjoys spending time with his wife and children, hunting and fishing in Michigan’s beautiful outdoors, and relaxing through yoga and poetry.
